Two tweens recently committed suicide because they were being bullied. Adults knew they were being bullied and tried to talk to them and give them support and advice. That was not enough. What needed to happen was that the bullying needed to stop. Parents and the school needed to work together to get everyone in a bullying situation professional help. Bullies will not stop on their own and victims can be so traumatized that they see no way out. It is when tweens and teens see no way out that they think of suicide. School wide “Yellow Ribbon” programs help prevent suicide by giving kids another way to solve their problems.
From the Yello Ribbon website
“Yellow Ribbon is dedicated to preventing youth suicide and attempts by empowering
communities and individuals through leadership, awareness and education;
and by identifying and collaborating with support networks to save lives.”
