If you’ve turned on the news recently, you’re probably asking yourself, “Why is there so much hate related violence in the world? Has it always been this way?”

Violence occurs when multiple risk factors come together to create a highly toxic situation. There are presently at least five situations in the national and international news where the alleged perpetrators were of different color, ethnicity, power, resources, or religion than those who were killed. Could intolerance have been the trigger behind the violence? Intolerance can lead to dehumanizing attitudes toward a person or group. Prevent Bullying in Schools and Neighborhoods.

Each of us is unique.  Stopping bullying is about learning to respect each other’s differences and communicating effectively with other people.  However, some bullies are deeply troubled and need professional help.  Teachers, parents, social workers and youth will find facts, links, and tips they can use to stop bullying.

Victims of bullying can become so depressed that they think about, attempt or commit suicide. There have been several tragic cases in the news.  This is very upsetting and we need to work together to prevent this. Teachers, parents, youth, and counselors working together can prevent bullying, violence, and suicide.

Youth with Bullying Behaviors Can Become Violent

Preventing or stopping bullying may pevent future violence, as well. If unchecked or not given professional help, bullying can continue until it is out of control and very dangerous.  Many violent youth start out as bullies.  They can be helped to find other ways to get their needs met if interventions are started early enough.
